Overview or Purpose
The Varanasi Development Authority is undertaking a major urban infrastructure initiative to install 50 Smart Bus Shelters across Varanasi. As per the Bus Shelter Design and Location Plan, the project includes deploying modern, technology-enabled bus stops at 50 identified high-traffic locations such as Lanka BHU, Ravidas Gate, Rathyatra Square, Kuber Complex, Varanasi Nagar Nigam, Sampurnanand Sports Complex, Cantt Bus Stop, Maqbool Alam Road, Police Line Chauraha, Shivpur, Harua Crossing, Pahadia Mandi, Airport Road, Jawahar Lal Nehru Complex and several other key nodes across the city. Bus Stops_Modules_April 2025 These Smart Bus Shelters are designed with digital information displays, passenger seating, LED lighting, and modular add-ons including kiosks, cycle stands, and EV-charging stations, depending on the specific module type. The design focuses on commuter safety, urban aesthetics, accessibility, and improved convenience for daily bus users. As per the consolidated cost summary from the Bus Shelter Design document, the total estimated cost for installing all 50 Smart Bus Shelters is approximately INR 10 Crore, covering superstructure, civil works, electrical and solar components, graphics, logistics, and installation. his project aims to significantly upgrade the public transport experience in Varanasi by providing modern, well-lit, informative, and commuter-friendly smart bus stop facilities throughout the city.
